Reservoirs Saved!!!!

We are delighted to be able to tell you that at the end of last week, Dwr Cymru / Welsh Water signed a 999 year lease on Llanishen and Lisvane reservoirs.  This means it now effectively owns the site and has bought it from Celsa.  Welsh Water has stated that pending necessary structural inspections and repair work, it plans to refill Llanishen Reservoir and for it to become an active part of the water supply system for Cardiff.  It also intends to re-establish public access at the site, although both of these outcomes may take some time to achieve.  As you will remember RAG was originally formed with two aims: to prevent a housing development on Llanishen reservoir, and to protect the future of the area as part of the Nant Fawr Green Corridor for future generations to enjoy.  We achieved the first of these, and it now looks as though the second has been pretty much achieved as well.  Welsh Water owned the site before Western Power appeared on the scene, so there is a nice symmetry in being able to welcome the company back.

We would also like to thank Celsa for listening to our concerns and passing on control of the reservoirs to a party who are sympathetic to our own aspirations for the site.  At all times they dealt with us in a straight-forward and open manner, and were concerned to come up with a solution that benefited the local community.  We wish them well for the future.
