Reservoir Refilling (for now!)

Rising water level in Llanishen Reservoir

Many local residents have noticed that the water level in Llanishen reservoir is gradually rising and have been asking how this can happen if the scour valve that drains the reservoir is still open.  We recently contacted Dwr Cymru Welsh Water for an explanation, as they now have an agreement with Celsa to undertake monitoring and the day-to-day maintenance of the reservoir.
We have been told that the scour valve has been closed for the past 12 months and this is why water levels in the reservoir have increased.  Welsh Water have asked for the scour valve to remain closed as the company needs to carry out particular maintenance work which includes removing some silt which has built up around the scour.  This will be done sometime in the summer of 2015.  It is anticipated that the scour valve will then be re-opened again.
