13th January 2011: LLANISHEN RESERVOIR AS A LANDFILL SITE.

Today, the news media have been reporting that Western Power has proposed that if they cannot use Llanishen reservoir for housing it should be used for landfill.  This is just scaremongering.  There is no way that they could use a listed historic structure as a landfill site, or one that incorporates a Site of Special Scientific Interest.  Besides which, Western Power does not control the access to the reservoir from any public highway and Cardiff Council's stated policy is to protect and enhance the four river corridors that enter the City from the surrounding countryside, including the Nant Fawr corridor. Western Power appear to be adopting an all too common ploy in planning circles, which is to threaten: accept our housing development or risk getting something much worse.  We need to call their bluff and tell them we will accept neither!
