Drainage work in Lisvane meadows and woods

We were upset to learn at the end of last week that Dŵr Cymru / Welsh Water are currently putting a new drainage ditch through three Sites of Importance for Nature Conservation (SINCs) on the north side of Lisvane reservoir.  It is claimed that this work is being done on the grounds of reservoir safety, but it is hard to understand why this has not been considered essential for the past 30 years and has to be carried out now at the height of the breeding season for birds and many other animals.  Trees in Llanishen Reservoir wood and Coed Ty Llwyd are being felled and removed by heavy machinery.  No advance information was provided to the local community about the plans to undertake this work, and many people are concerned about the damage being caused to the local environment and wildlife.
