The next
RAG fundraising event, the third Save Our Cardiff Reservoirs Walk, takes
place on Saturday 6th July: now only a short time away!
It has been
fantastic news that Western Power has lost its planning appeal, and this means the campaign
enters a new phase - to restore the reservoirs as a public amenity. In this phase there is a lot of work to
be done and fundraising continues to enable us to pursue a campaign to get the
reservoir refilled, full public access restored, and the creation of an amenity
for future generations to again enjoy sailing, fishing and walking.
The third Save
Our Cardiff Reservoirs Walk has five walk options: 3, 6, 12, 17
or 21 miles, and full details are on the event website www.socrw.co.uk. Also this year we have revised the three mile
‘Zinc’ Route and renamed it the ‘Teashop’ Route as it now passes
four cafes through Bute Park. So if the
weather of last year is repeated there will be plenty of opportunity to take
shelter!
If you are
able to take part, you can enter on-line via the event website www.socrw.co.uk or there’s an
entry form on the website, which you can print off and post. When you return after the walk there will be
plenty of tea, coffee, squash, cakes and biscuits (as well as a certificate for
all finishers!) Alternatively, if you are able to volunteer to help out that
would also be useful. Volunteers are
needed to help by serving refreshments to returning walkers, marshalling
checkpoints, and checking in walkers at the beginning and end of their walks.
Your
participation as either a walker or volunteer will help enable RAG to continue
the work and build on the successes of the past 12 years. For further information, or if you have any queries, please see the website or email me at: saveourcardiffreservoirswalk@gmail.com
Best wishes
